Work-up

The work-up for ependymomas primarily involves MRI and CT. The entire neuraxis should be imaged using MRI with gadolinium to exclude the possibility of metastatic disease. CSF cytology with lumbar puncture should also be performed to determine whether there has been dissemination.

While MRI and CT features may be strongly suggestive of ependymoma, pathology is required to make a final diagnosis of the disease.
