Review of Pathology

Updated: 6 May 2004

BCCA breast pathologists review slides in the following situations:

1.    It is the policy of the Breast Tumour Group that all node negative invasive breast cancer have a formal pathology review as this is a situation which can significantly change the prognosis of an early breast cancer and may initiate a change in adjuvant management. This review will be done promptly on all referred cases and is available for non referred cases.  For referred cases this is prompted by the referral clerk.  For nonreferred cases, forms are available.

2.    Cases where there is a need to further clarify specific aspects of the tumour where it may impact treatment, such as margins, can be reviewed prior to a final decision regarding treatment.  These reviews are prompted by a treating oncologist - radiation, medical, surgical and are requested on an additional information form.
