9.4 Staging

Updated: 27 April 2011

Staging Diagram and Classification Criteria

Investigations for Staging

CT scan of the abdomen and chest X-ray are required for adequate staging. Adequate staging of disease within the liver will require CT angiography. It should be noted that TNM staging alone is insufficient to accurately prognosticate, as presence of viral hepatitis, extent of cirrhosis, histologic grade, and remaining liver function are other important determinants for prognosis and treatment.
