As re-resection or other local therapies are sometimes considered valuable for recurrent hepatomas it is useful to follow these patients every three months for the first year and every six months thereafter until five years. Serum alpha-fetoprotein determination should be done on each visit. For those patients in whom it is believed that they could tolerate a second resection, liver ultrasounds should be done every six months. No other diagnostic imaging investigations or laboratory investigations would be of more value or useful. For patients who are not candidates for surgery or local therapies, follow-up will depend on their physical condition and problems.
