The Rice family has donated funds to award a prize in memory of Betty Rice who was a lung cancer patient managed by Dr. Karen Gelmon. The annual prize of $1,500.00 is to be awarded to residents in thoracic surgery, radiation oncology or medical oncology or a master's or PhD candidate doing a research project in lung cancer.
Potential recipients should forward appropriate documentation of the lung cancer research project to Dr. Stephen Lam by the deadline of October 21, 2005 by e-mail (slam@bccancer.bc.ca). The selection will be made by November 1, 2005 by a committee consisting of Stephen Lam, Karen Gelmon, Betty Rice's son and Mira Keyes.
