Malignant mesothelioma is rarely curable, and screening of asbestos workers for mesothelioma is therefore inappropriate. However, smoking greatly increases the risk of lung cancer (but not mesothelioma) in asbestos workers, and smoking cessation efforts are needed in this high-risk group.
