These working groups collaborate with the provincial Guidelines and Protocols Advisory Committee, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Health and the BC Medical Association, to develop practical, easy-to-follow cancer care guidelines for family physicians. These guidelines are being prepared according to the Advisory Committee format, will be brief, evidence-based and take a proactive approach to the management of cancer as a chronic disease. Work is underway now on guidelines for palliative care with colorectal, breast and prostate cancer next on the agenda. Once complete, these guidelines will be posted here and at BCGuidelines.ca and available for viewing via PDA, Blackberry and iPhone.
At present, there are three working groups developing the guidelines for palliative care (files open in PDF format): Palliative Care, Pain and Symptom Management and Grief and Bereavement .
The BC Cancer Agency develops more comprehensive Cancer Management Guidelines, based on the accumulated experiences of the Agency, together with best practice evidence derived from major cancer centres throughout the world.
