Guidelines and Protocols

 Updated 21 September 2011

The Network is collaborating with the provincial Guidelines and Protocols Advisory Committee, jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Health and the BC Medical Association, to develop practical, easy-to-follow cancer care guidelines for family physicians.

These guidelines are being prepared according to the Advisory Committee format: brief, evidence-based and taking a proactive approach to the management of cancer as a chronic disease. Our first three guidelines - The Palliative Approach to Care, Pain & Symptom Management (seven in the set) and Grief & Bereavement - are published at BCGuidelines.ca

Additional appendices for the Pain & Symptom Management Guideline: Additional appendices for the Grief & Bereavement Guideline:
Planning for guidelines on colorectal, breast and prostate cancer is underway.

All published guidelines will soon be available for download to PDA, Blackberry and iPhone.

The BC Cancer Agency develops more comprehensive Cancer Management Guidelines, based on the accumulated experiences of the Agency, together with best practice evidence derived from major cancer centres throughout the world.
