Oncology Nutrition Council

Terms of Reference
Definition:
- A BC Cancer Agency committee with nutrition representation from all BC Cancer Agency regional centres
Reporting Relationship:
- Provincial Leader, Cancer Rehabilitation
Membership:
- Registered Dietitians from all BC Cancer Agency regional centres
Mandate:
- To coordinate functions and ensure consistent delivery of care across all BC Cancer Agency centres
Purpose:
- To establish the nutrition strategic plan, goals and objectives in line with the Agency's mission and key strategic directions
- To establish the policies surrounding the practice of oncology nutrition within the province
- To monitor nutrition-related patient care activities within the BC Cancer Agency centres and act as the authority on nutrition content
- To participate in development of nutrition care guidelines
- To review and monitor adherence to National Standards of Practice for Oncology Nutrition
- To discuss the role and activities of Nutrition Services in areas of treatment, prevention, research and education
- To provide a forum for discussion of oncology nutrition-related matters
- To formulate the guidelines for the development, use and distribution of patient education material related to nutrition in the province
- To coordinate the activities of individuals within and between BC Cancer Agency centres as they relate to nutrition and patient care, education and research
- To provide direction to working groups (website, education planning)
Oncology Nutrition Network:
- Membership is informal and consists of BC Cancer Agency registered dietitians (RDs) and all interested RDs in BC (and Canada) accessing cancer information via the ONN newsletter, educational events, and the BC Cancer Agency website
Nutrition Council Working Groups:
- Working groups will be established by the Nutrition Council based on the strategic plan and priorities and will create their own work plans to meet defined goals (e.g. Prevention Education Planning Group)
Chair of the Nutrition Council:
- Rotating chair for each meeting
- Calls and chairs the meetings of the Nutrition Council
- Responsible for the agenda of the Nutrition Council
- Minutes of each meeting are be recorded by a rotating secretary, circulated
Frequency of meetings:
- Two hours, six times per year. Additional meetings are called as required by the council members
