In order to plan for the delivery of this quality service, the volumes of surgical oncology procedures in BC need to be analyzed. Phase I of the BC Surgical Oncology Atlas for the fiscal year 1999/2000 presents information in terms of :
- patient demographics (age, gender)
- geographic location (BC New Health Authority region, BCCA region)
- hospital sizes (number of acute beds)
The information in this Atlas is of use to :
- healthcare administrators in planning the allocation of resources and practice guidelines
- surgeons as a network information resource
- general public (upon request) as required by the FOIPP act.
As discussed in Phase II to V, later phases will concentrate on outcome measures and other issues.
