1. What information can I expect to find on this site?
The site is divided into six categories described below. Upon viewing any page on the site, you can click the top left hand BC Cancer Agency logo to return to the default home page.

  • Patient/Public Info - includes information on prevention, screening, types of cancer specifics, recommended links to other cancer and health sites, coping with cancer and unconventional therapies.
  • Regional Services - information on our five cancer centres situated in the Southern Interior, Fraser Valley, Abbotsford, Vancouver and Vancouver Island. There is also information on the Communities Oncology Network which is a collaborative, partnership with 19 community-based cancer centres, six community based cancer services, and 12 consultative clinics across the province, in conjunction with the BC Cancer Agency’s four regional cancer centres. The network also supports appropriate delivery of patient care and support in 33 other community hospitals.
  • Health Professionals Info - this section has been created for health professionals involved in delivering cancer care and includes our cancer management guidelines, chemotherapy protocols, drug manual, statistics and continuing education for health professionals.
  • About BCCA – general information on the Agency including our strategic plan, press releases and job opportunities. 
  • Research – topics covered include our research programs, open clinical trials, research ethics, technology development office and our tumour tissue repository.
  • Donating – Information on the BC Cancer Foundation, an independent charitable organization that raises and stewards resources to support breakthrough research and compassionate care through the BC Cancer Agency. Learn about ways to give, current events and how your donations support the BC Cancer Agency.

2. What if I can’t find the information I am looking for?
Use our sitemap (web page that lists all pages on our site by category) or type what you are looking for into our Search box found on the top right hand corner of every page.

If you are still unable to locate the information please submit a Contact Us form.

3. How frequently is the site updated?
The information on this site is updated as required. Where possible, a page will display the date on which it was originally posted, last reviewed or last updated at the top of the page just under the page title.

4. Do I need permission to reproduce material on this site?
All information on this website is copyrighted by us or other contributors. Reproduction of content (images, text or documents) is strictly prohibited without our permission and the permission of the applicable rights' holders. Please contact the Communications Specialist to submit a request to reproduce any content on this site.

5. What is a PDF and why can't I access them?
PDF stands for portable document format. PDFs render exactly the same regardless of the hardware and software utilised. As such most of the documents we post are created as PDFs. If you are unable to open a PDF link you may need to install the plug-in tool that will allow you to read PDFs.

1. How do I search for information on the site?
The search box can be found on the top right hand corner of every web page.



Type specific keywords or phrases in this box and click on the GO button. The search results appear by category in the following order: About BCCA, General, Health Professionals Info, Patient/Public Info, Regional Services, Research and Documents. The Documents category includes all documents containing your keywords or phrase. If you click on a web page title it will take you to a page which highlights the search keywords or phrase.

If you would like to narrow down or increase the number of search results you get please click on the SEARCH TIPS link at the top of the Search Results Page for information on how to do so.

1. What browsers can I use with this site?
The web site is best viewed using Internet Explorer 6.0 (and above), however most major browsers are also compatible. To upgrade your browser please click on the appropriate link below:

2. What screen settings should I use?
This site is best viewed with a screen size resolution of 1024 x 768 no matter what internet browser you are using. If you have a PC, right click on your desktop and select PROPERTIES. You should then select the SETTINGS tab to change the resolution. If you have a MAC, select CONTROL PANEL from the menu and then DISPLAYS.

3. What are cookies and are they used on the site?
Cookies are small messages given to a browser by a Web server. The browser stores the message in a text file and sends the message back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server (www.webopedia.com). For example, cookies may save your password when you login in to a particular site so you do not have to remember and re-enter it every time you visit that site. There are no cookies on this site, but we do store your IP address for website administrative purposes. To find out more about the information we collect and store please review our Privacy Policy.

4. What are favorites / bookmarks and how do I create them?
If you often go to the same page on our site you may want to consider saving it as a favorite (Internet Explorer users) or bookmark (Netscape / Mozilla Firefox users). This will allow you to open your browser and then select the page to open from your favorites or bookmarked list right away. 

To add a favorite:
• Ensure you are on the page you would like to create as a favorite
• Click on the FAVORITES tab from your browser menu
• Click ADD TO FAVORITES and add a title for this page which will help you recognize it, select a relevant folder to store your favorite in and then click OK.

To add a bookmark:
• Ensure you are on the page you would like to create as a bookmark

5. What are plug ins and which ones are used on this site?
A plug-in is an application you can download for free enabling your computer to play sounds, video clips and open PDF documents. We do not have many video or sound files on the site as yet but do have many PDF documents. If you need to install any of the following plug ins you can do so by clicking on the links below:

Printing
1. What is the best way to print web pages from this site?
We have included a PRINT THIS PAGE link at the top and bottom of almost every web page.

    

Please click on either one to be forwarded to a printer friendly page. Press PRINT under FILE on your browser taskbar or click on the print icon on the browser taskbar to print. This functionality will print only the body text of the page and will not include the left hand side menu or top banner.

Accessibility
1. The font is too small - can I enlarge it?
To change the body font size click VIEW on your browser taskbar at the top of your screen and select TEXT SIZE. You will be able to change the size of the font there.
