Info for New Patients

Revised: August 2008

All cancer patients have questions and concerns about their diagnosis, treatment and recovery. We want you to know how important it is for you to feel comfortable talking to us.

Your cancer care team is here to discuss your concerns and answer any questions you may have.

Your referral to the BC Cancer Agency connects you and your family/ friends to a full network of cancer services including high-quality, effective treatment, support programs and nutritional guidance. If you would like help dealing with cancer side effects or symptoms please go to our Coping with Cancer section. You also have access to the Library, and all its resources.

You may be interested in taking part in clinical trials research happening in the BC Cancer Agency. Staff at BC Cancer Agency's Fraser Valley Centre have prepared a video explaining the various types of clinical trials and the importance of clinical research. The video is available on the Online Video page of the Living Well with Cancer website.

In addition to our five major cancer centres (Vancouver, Victoria, Surrey, Kelowna and Abbotsford) you have access to a range of cancer services at the BC Cancer Agency's 17 community clinics. The clinics are part of the Communities Oncology Network, a partnership between the BC Cancer Agency and regional hospitals and health-care professionals throughout BC.

For information for new patients under 17 years of age, please go to the For Families section of the Pediatric Oncology/ Hematology Network website (www.kidscancer.bc.ca).
