Clinical Trial Info and Patient Consent Form
Updated Aug 15, 2008
Although approved in many other countries around the world such as the United States, Argentina, England, Japan, and Australia, 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG), the radiotracer most commonly used in PET/CT scanning, has not been widely approved for routine clinical use in Canada. As such, PET/CT scans performed at the BC Cancer Agency on adult and pediatric cancer patients are done under two separate Clinical Trial Agreements with Health Canada.
The main purpose of each clinical trial is to evaluate the efficacy of 18F-FDG as manufactured by the BC Cancer Agency for use in patients undergoing scanning at our facility. Although 18F-FDG is considered investigational, it is also considered very safe and has been used in research settings at various centres in Canada for the past several years.
Below are printable patient consent forms for PET/CT scans to be performed only at the BC Cancer Agency. Patients (or parents/guardians of pediatric patients) will need to sign the appropriate consent form before the scan can be performed.
If you have been referred for a PET/CT scan, you do not need to sign a form at this time. This information is being provided on the website for informational and preview purposes only.
Upon arriving for your appointment, you will have an opportunity to ask our staff questions about the procedure before providing consent.
