About the Program

Updated: Friday, February 19, 2010

The Cervical Cancer Screening Program (CCSP) is part of the BC Cancer Agency, a member of the Provincial Health Services Authority.

Established in 1949, CCSP was the first organized population-based program in the world to screen for cervical cancer.

Over time, the program has successfully reduced the incidence of cervical cancer in B.C. by more than 70 per cent.

In B.C., 78.9 per cent of women aged 20 to 69 had a Pap test in a recent three-year period.
