Online Support Groups

We are piloting online support and discussion groups for cancer patients and family members.

These groups allow people to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. They provide a private and secure place to share support and information. From the comfort of home, you can join online with a group of 5-7 others and a BC Cancer Agency oncology counsellor.

Groups meet weekly at scheduled times and are available free of charge. If an online group is of interest to you, please contact us.

Contact Us

There are three steps to register for an Online Support Group:

  1. Contact us to find out information about current groups (see Joining below)
  2. Complete a phone interview with the coordinator
  3. Answer a set of web-based questionnaires prior to beginning the online group. You will be asked to complete these questionnaires again when the group ends

Technical Requirements

To access the online groups you will need a private computer with Internet access that operates on one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox or Safari.

Confirmation of Identity and Informed Consent

To participate in the groups your identity as a cancer patient or a family member of a cancer patient must be confirmed. To ensure informed consent, you will be required to read the BC Cancer Agency Consent Form online and acknowledge that you have been fully informed and you consent to participating in the groups.

Joining

If you are interested, please contact the study coordinator at 1-800-663-3333 ext 4965, cancerchatcanada@bccancer.bc.ca or register at our website at cancerchatcanada.ca
