Diarrhea

Reviewed: December 2006

Diarrhea is defined as more than two loose or watery stools per day. It can be caused by radiation over your bowels. Diarrhea may be worse if you are also receiving chemotherapy.

Chronic loose stools may occur because of cancer treatments as well.  Whatever the cause, diarrhea must be managed, as it will otherwise deplete the patient of needed hydration and electrolytes very quickly.

The BC Cancer Agency maintains a database on commonly used unconventional therapies available to cancer patients.
