From Dough to DNA : 601 West Tenth, Vancouver – The Bakers, The Building and the BC Cancer Research Centre.
Stewart Jackson MD

This book chronicles the history of the bakery at 601 West Tenth Avenue in Vancouver and the British Columbia Cancer Research Centre which later came to occupy the building. The story of the building is entwined with the influential and socially prominent members of the Shelly and McGavin families who first established bakeries in Vancouver at the beginning of the 20th century. With the decline of their bakery empires the building was acquired by the BC Cancer Foundation and came to house the various departments of the BC Cancer Research Centre. The book is timed to coincide with the opening of the impressive new BC Cancer Research Centre at 675 West Tenth Avenue and the 70th anniversary of the BC Cancer Foundation.
