Phase II Trials: After a new treatment is tested in a phase I trial, some of these will go on to testing in a phase II study, again usually in a fairly small number of patients—perhaps a few dozen--usually all with the same or a similar type of cancer. The study might take place in one to about a dozen cancer treatment centres, usually in one or two countries. In this phase of testing, the investigators want to find out how well the new drug works in a particular type of cancer, and want to continue to learn about the side effects.
