Does my project require BCCA Department Head approval?
Yes.  This only applies to "new projects" (not required for post-approval activities). All new projects must be approved by a BCCA Department Head.   A new project application is not routed to the REB inbox until the Department Head "approves" the application in the RISe system.  Researchers are therefore advised to submit the new project application at least 3 days or more in advance of the REB deadline dates to allow time for their Department Head or their alternate to review/approve the application in RISe. The REB does not track or obtain the Department Review/Approvals. It is the Principal Investigator's responsibility to follow-up with his or her Department Head to ensure the study receives approval by a BCCA Department Head and routed to the REB in time for an REB deadline.
Instructions for Department Reviewers: See Help Document #3 on our REB webpage.

How far in advance should I submit an annual renewal?
Annual Renewals
requiring full board review should be submitted by the deadline date for the applicable full board meeting for review prior to the expiry date.
Annual Renewals requiring expedited review should be submitted 2 weeks prior to expiry.
See
Annual Renewals.
