Dr. Piotr KozlowskiDr. Kozlowski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology/Urologic Sciences at the University of British Columbia, the Associate Director of the University of British Columbia Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Research Centre, and a Research Scientist in the Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital.

His research focuses on the development of MRI technology to study animal models of human diseases. Some examples are as follows:

1.  Tumour microenvironment - Development and application of MRI based techniques to study tumour blood flow, architecture of the tumour vasculature, tumour tissue oxygen tension, tumour hypoxia, and pH in pancreatic and colon cancer.

2.  Prostate cancer diagnosis - Development of a novel MRI-based diagnostic technique for prostate cancer. The technique uses a combination of diffusion MRI and contrast-enhanced dynamic MRI to diagnose and stage prostate cancer. The study involving prostate cancer patients and volunteers is conducted using a clinical MRI scanner at Vancouver General Hospital and a research 3T human MRI scanner at the High Field MRI Centre.

3.  Spinal cord injury - Development of an MRI-based technology for very high resolution imaging of rat spinal cord. Current projects include development of specialized RF coils for improved image quality and monitoring changes in myelin in rat spinal cord following injury.
