Urs Hafeli, PhD

Dr. Urs HafeliDr. Urs Hafeli has been an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia since 2004.

He holds a degree in Pharmaceutics from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland and a PhD in Radiopharmaceuticals from the same institution in combination with the Paul Scherrer Institute in Wurenlingen, Switzerland. Dr. Hafeli was a postdoctoral fellow at the Joint Center for Radiation Therapy at Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts.

In 1996, while working as a staff scientist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, he co-founded the International Conference on the Scientific and Clinical Applications of Magnetic Carriers and has been organizing the meeting every two years since then.

His research interests include the use of therapeutic radioisotopes for cancer therapy and the application of magnetic microspheres for site-directed smart drug targeting. He is currently developing radiolabeled anti-mesothelin antibodies for the early detection and then treatment of pancreas cancer.
