Participate: Courses & Research
At the BC Cancer Agency, there are many different types of research studies underway that explore a wide range of interventions as well as the experiences of people living with cancer.
CAMEO Research Program studies explore how best to support people with cancer, their family members, and cancer health professionals in making informed decisions about complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). CAMEO also assists other researchers in conducting research studies on CAM.
On this webpage, we describe and offer links (where available) to studies that are currently looking for participants. These include:
Please contact the individuals listed for details about each project.

Complementary Medicine and Cancer: Laying the Foundation for Making "Good" Decisions
A workshop for patients and their support persons |
This workshop is for BC Cancer Agency patients (within 5 years of diagnosis) and their support persons who want to learn about the use of complementary medicines (CAM) therapies during the cancer journey. The workshop covers the current CAM evidence for CAM therapies, what questions you should be asking and issues to be aware of, how to evaluate information, and gain decision-making skills around the use of CAM during the cancer journey. Participants will be asked to do a questionnaire before the course and one month after, as well as evaluate the course.
Vancouver / Lower mainland BC: Saturday, February 11th, 9 a.m to 1 p.m. at the Surrey Cancer Centre. |

Supporting Safe and Informed CAM and Cancer Decisions
An education program for health care providers working with oncology patients |
This program is for BC Health Care Providers who work with cancer patients.
It is an online, modular, self-directed learning course which will require approximately 2-3 hours in total. There are three individual lessons which could take as little as 20 minutes to complete, or may take up to 1 hour if the learner completes all related learning activities, including reflection exercises, case scenarios, quizzes and participating in the related discussion board. We hope that the participants will complete the course over a one month time period.
All participants will complete a questionnaire upon registering, an evaluation upon completion, and a final questionnaire one month after completing the online education program. |

CAMEO Database and CAM Information Provision |
This study is related to the development of a database for the CAMEO research program to keep track of all questions about CAM received by CAMEO, as well as contact information for people wanting to be informed about new CAMEO research studies, education opportunities related to CAM, and to receive correspondence from CAMEO (for example, the CAMEO Newsletter). All individuals contacting CAMEO with questions about CAM and cancer will be invited to join the database. Please note that you can receive help with CAM and cancer questions without consenting to be in the database. |
