Trainees Program

Updated: Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Program Description

 MeaghanObrien_in_NS_office Capacity Building

The Cross Cultural Palliative Care NET is committed to fostering team excellence and building research capacity in the field of palliative and end-of-life care.

Trainees are recruited from multi-discipline Master's, PhD, and Post Doctoral Programs located at universities in BC, Saskatchewan, and Nova Scotia.

Trainees have the opportunity to complete research in their chosen areas while learning how to design, conduct and operationalize research projects.

Interdisciplinary learning is encouraged through research training days where trainees present and critique their findings.  Trainees will also develop a broader perspective of pressing questions and issues in mixed methods, palliative and end-of-life care, and culture.

 Mike_Deepika Mentorship

Trainees are mentored by NET investigators who also co-supervise academic programs in partnership with departmental supervisors.

Participation in teleconferences, research projects, thesis preparation and manuscript writing are activities mentored by NET investigators.

Trainees experience learning new skills, knowledge creation, research project completion, and knowledge translation.

Their opportunity to work across disciplines helps to build collaborative relationships, reach common understandings from diverse cultures, gain insights, and to enhance critical appraisal skills.

 Arminee_Usha Recruitment

Trainees are asked to complete a funding application, a project or work plan with concrete deliverables identified, and to provide recent transcripts and a letter of recommendation from their current supervisor.

The NET provides financial support for one year and a commitment to a second year if the agreed upon deliverables have been met. The NET is open to considering trainees from multidisciplines with the caveat that individuals have experience in or are willing to pursue research related to
  1. palliative and end-of-life care
  2. cultural implications in wellness/illness
  3. health service delivery
