Before Your First Visit

Published: July 29, 2010

You may receive a telephone call before your first visit asking for information that will help us register you. If you do not receive a call, don’t worry; we will talk to you at the time of your appointment.

Please Bring With You

  • Your BC Care Card
  • All your medications in their original containers so that the physician may review them with you
  • The names and telephone numbers (work and home) of two contact people
  • Your health history and any allergies that you may have
  • Please bring any X-rays that you may have been given
  • Please write down any questions you may have

Browse our Frequently Asked Questions page for information on centre location, transportation, parking, etc.

Review the Health Assessment Form  that you will be asked to complete when you arrive for your first appointment. If you wish, you may print the Health Assessment Form and complete it at your leisure before you come to the cancer centre. Please bring the completed form with you to the main Reception Desk, at which time you will be handed the New Patient Brochure.

For your first visit, you will be in the Abbotsford Centre for at least two or three hours. You may find it helpful to bring someone with you for support. They may remain with you during your visit with the physicians and other members of the health care team.

You are also encouraged to bring an interpreter if you need help speaking with the staff, or an interpreter can be requested from the Patient and Family Counselling Department at 604.851.4733*.

Because of the length of your appointment, we also suggest you have a meal before coming, or a snack in the restaurant located on Level 1 (unless otherwise instructed).
