The first day of operation for the BC Cancer Agency's Abbotsford Centre was August 25th 2008

August 2008: State-of-the-art radiation therapy machines ready for use at BC Cancer Agency’s Abbotsford Centre

When the Abbotsford Centre begins caring for patients on August 25, its new linear accelerators will be ready for use thanks to the hard work of a team of internationally recruited medical physicists. See radiation therapy machines news release.

August 2008: Husband and wife medical team from the U.S. recruited to new BC Cancer Agency Abbotsford Centre

Drs. Winston and Uhlman will join the medical team at the BC Cancer Agency’s new Abbotsford Centre. With over 15 years of experience each in treating adult cancer patients, they are two of four medical oncologists hired for the new centre. See husband and wife medical team news release.

June 2008: Public tour of Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre

Residents of the eastern Fraser Valley got a sneak preview of the new Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC) on a public tour Saturday, June 14th. See public tour news release.

April 2008: Public forum on programs and services to be offered at Abbotsford Centre

Staff at the new centre will provide core services such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, counselling and support services, pain and symptom management and palliative care, and community prevention education. See public forum news release.

March 2008: Recruitment ramps up

September 2007: Radiation Therapy equipment arrives

Four linear accelerators worth $14 million were delivered to the BC Cancer Agency’s Abbotsford Centre. A team of medical physicists will spend the next few months putting the machines through rigorous testing before they can be used in a treatment setting.
