What role does the Breast Cancer Patient Navigator play?
A breast health certified Cancer Patient Navigator is the key liaison for care coordination, education and support to patients and their families. As well the navigator plays a role in coordination and communication with the family physician. |
Many individuals experience breast changes.
Most of these changes are harmless. A diagnosis of breast cancer occurs only in a small number of cases. Still, the process of getting tested, receiving results and waiting for treatment can be stressful and difficult. This is the reason the IB-RAPID program was developed. The IB-RAPID program has been developed to support you as you move through diagnosis, investigation and if needed — treatment.
IB-RAPID offers support to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer or who have a high suspicion of breast cancer based on abnormal results detected through mammogram, ultrasound or a physicians examination. IB-RAPID offers support to individuals and their families starting as soon as suspicious breast changes are noticed and continuing through diagnosis and early treatment.
This program requires a physician’s referral and is intended for patients with breast cancer. This program does not offer routine breast screening (mammography). For more information on screening contact the Screening Mammography Clinic at 250-861-7560 or toll free at 1-800-663-9203.
