If you need assistance with airfare or ferries for your visit to the centre, you should contact your doctor to arrange for a Travel Assistance form (TAPS). There is funding available through the Ministry of Health to assist with the cost of airfare and ferries. If further assistance is needed with the cost of airfare, please contact your Regional Canadian Cancer Society office to apply for assistance with Emergency Aid. The number for the Lower Mainland is (604) 872-4400.
There is a volunteer driver program to assist you in getting to your treatment. If you do not have any alternatives to get to your treatment, please contact your Regional Canadian Cancer Society Office to arrange for a ride.
The Freemason Driver Program offers airport pickups or, if you live in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster or Richmond, a ride to your treatment. They can be reached at 1-800-663-2524.
Please note that for all Volunteer Driver arrangements, either Canadian Cancer Society or Freemasons, there must be 24 hours advance notice to arrange for dispatch.
Pacific Coach Lines, located in Victoria, provide free transportation from Victoria to Vancouver and return. They can be reached at (250) 385-3348.
Ambulance Costs
Individuals are responsible for their ambulance costs except when one is going from Hospital A to B and then back to A for tests and/or treatment in a 24 hour period. Check with your extended health benefit plan for assistance. If this is not applicable, you may apply to the Canadian Cancer Society.
