This inaugural Report to the Community highlights some of the exciting work that took place across the province at the BC Cancer Agency. Every year within these pages, we will share stories about our innovative and ever-evolving endeavors in an effort to maintain an open and transparent patient-centred culture.

Between these covers you'll read diverse stories ranging from the launch of a new provincial breast cancer program to new partnerships and initiatives with indigenous British Columbians. You'll hear about the successful launch of new digital mammography vehicles, providing access to modern and timely screening services for more rural and remote communities. You'll hear about the experiences of some of our patients and dedicated volunteers that are at the heart of everything we do. And you'll learn about new long-term supports and services as well as major technology advances that have helped to significantly enhance patient-centred care. And much more.

In 2016, the Agency was given the mandate to lead the development of a comprehensive cancer control system for the province. We began this work with the creation of a Cancer Policy Paper and the work continues today with an ongoing three-year strategic cancer plan for the province. And, as the theme of this year's Report to the Community demonstrates, we continue to "Move Forward. Together." We do this with confidence, in a spirit of collaboration and always focused on providing the best care for British Columbians.

While leadership restructuring and the development of a provincial cancer plan was a key focus at the executive level in 2016, BC Cancer Agency team members continued to remain focused on delivering high quality patient care, developing innovative practices and systems and advancing world-leading cancer research. As you'll see, the success of BC Cancer Agency is clearly due to a shared sense of pride, purpose and professionalism that our staff members have for the work that they do.
