Effective February 17, 2006, the Tumour Marker Laboratory (TML) will no longer perform testing for prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP). The company that supplies the reagents for this test, Abbott Diagnostics, has discontinued production of the test kits due to limited demand for this product.
The Tumour Marker Laboratory offers both total and free prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which are considered superior tests for the diagnosis and monitoring of prostatic carcinoma. Our laboratory currently receives only a limited number of requests for prostatic acid phosphatase, and most of these requests are based on research protocols or clinical practices that could use PSA in its place.
