The pharmacy provides (free of charge) medications prescribed to treat your cancer:
- tablets or capsules to take by mouth at home
- certain hormonal injections that are administered by your physician
- injectable chemotherapy drugs that are administered while you are here at the centre
The pharmacy does not provide medications for supportive care, such as anti-nauseants or pain-control medications; you must fill those at a community pharmacy.
Labwork and prescriptions
Bring ID when picking up prescriptions from the pharmacy (one piece of photo ID or two pieces of secondary ID)
For some treatments, your oncologist may request labwork to be reviewed before your prescription can be filled. If you have your labwork performed at the UHNBC lab, please wait at least one and a half hours before you pick up your prescription.
You will be given verbal and written instructions about your medication(s) when they are dispensed. Our pharmacists are always happy to discuss any questions you may have about your prescriptions. Drop by the pharmacy or call ahead to make an appointment with one of our pharmacists.
