Clinical Trials

Cancer clinical research may be focused on developing better ways to prevent, detect, or treat cancer, or on better ways to treat the symptoms of cancer.

This section is about clinical trial research at BC Cancer – Victoria. For information about clinical trials at BC Cancer in general, please visit our main Clinical Trials Research section.

Clinical trials have been conducted at BC Cancer – Victoria since the early 1980's.

The Radiation Therapy Research Business Unit (RTRBU) emerged in March 2006 due to the need for the radiation oncologists to have an avenue to efficiently take advantage of clinical trials involving Research Ethics Board-approved studies using radiation therapy as an intervention. These trials range from large, multi-centre trials to smaller BC Cancer – Victoria-driven trials.

From April 2006 to October 2008, a total of 390 patients participated in RTRBU-operated studies.

The RTRBU is co-managed by:
  • Dr. Pauline Truong
  • Dr. Wayne Beckham
