The BC Cancer Agency offers a number of support programs at all its regional cancer centres.

Programs

Patient & family counselling 

We have professionally trained counsellors who specialize in cancer care. We counsel patients, couples and family groups during cancer treatment and beyond. We also lead support programs. Our centre also has a Chinese speaking counsellor.

Vocational rehabilitation 

This program includes vocational assessment, resource referral, information, advocacy assistance and counselling related to rehabilitation issues for patients and family members.

Chinese peer navigators

Peer navigators are cancer survivor volunteers who provide Chinese-speaking patients with conversational support, and help them find resources.

Wigs & head coverings

Complimentary wig service is provided through the Jean C Barber Lodge

Head coverings are available in the following locations inside the Vancouver Centre:

  • Cancer Information Centre, Level 1 (main lobby)
  • Volunteer Office, Level 1
  • From any green-vested volunteer
  • Chemotherapy treatment area, Level 6

Brain Tumour Support Group 

Every other month we break into two subgroups, one for patients and another for caregivers & loved ones. This allows members of each group to support each other around their unique challenges.

  • First Wednesday of each month 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 

Be Active Program

A series of education sessions offered different times throughout the year for Chinese-speaking patients.

The Children's Group 

This group is offered at different times throughout the year. Parents and guardians have a session for themselves at the same time. Pre-registration is required.

Chinese Support Group 

This is a peer support and information sharing group for Cantonese-speaking cancer patients and their supporters. 

  • Location: John Jambor Room, 1st Floor
  • Second Thursday of each month, 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

Look Good Feel Better Program

Registration required.

  • Location:  5th floor
  • First Thursday of each month 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. 
  • Third Tuesday of each month 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Lung Cancer Support Group 

This is a drop-in support group for patients and family members affected by lung cancer

  •    Wednesday November 23 ,10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m
  •    Location: Room 502, 5th floor 

Memory & Attention Adaptation Training 

Pre-registration is required.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Relaxation & Stress Management 

This drop-in group for patients and family members.

  • Monday 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Return to Work Educational Sessions 

Pre-registration is required. 

Women Living with Metastatic Cancer 

This drop-in group is for women dealing with metastatic cancer. 

  • Location: Room 502, 5th floor
  • First and third Wednesday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
