The BC Cancer Foundation is the bridge that connects philanthropic support and research breakthroughs in cancer knowledge. As the fundraising partner of the BC Cancer Agency and the largest charitable funder of cancer research in this province, we enable donors to make contributions to leading-edge research that have a direct impact on improvements to cancer care for patients in British Columbia. We fund with the goal of finding solutions.
As an independent charitable organization, we raise funds exclusively for the BC Cancer Agency that go to supporting innovative cancer research and compassionate enhancements to patient care.
PET/CT delivers precise imaging technology that provides doctors with the information necessary to offer the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment. The use of PET/CT means a single, highly-effective test for the patient, which can save them from unnecessary radiation treatment, surgery, additional imaging tests and biopsies.
The need for PET/CT technology on Vancouver Island is urgent and growing. In 2014, there were 1,270 PET/CT scans performed for patients in the Island Health region. This represents a 147% increase in the number of scans performed just five years previous.
The BC Cancer Foundation has launched a $5 million fundraising initiative and is committed to bringing this critical care tool closer to home for thousands of patients. No longer will residents of Vancouver Island be burdened by having to travel to Vancouver for this important aspect of their cancer care. Learn more here.
The pace of scientific discovery in cancer has never been faster. Clinical trials represent the pinnacle of excellent patient care, and a necessary step in the cutting-edge research that brings us better treatments.
After a decade of laboratory research supported by BC Cancer Foundation donors, Dr. Brad Nelson, director of the Deeley Research Centre (DRC), and colleagues are joining forces with experts at the BC Cancer Agency’s Genome Sciences Centre (GSC) to deliver truly personalized immunotherapy to patients across British Columbia with immunotherapy clinical trials.
