Your Next FIT

Fecal immunochemical tests now available in labs throughout the province. Learn more here.‎

The screening test for colon cancer is called the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT). FIT detects blood in your stool (poop) which can be a sign of pre-cancer.

FIT is recommended every 2 years for people who do not have a personal history of adenomas or a significant family history of colon cancer.

A reminder letter is sent in the mail when it's time for your next FIT. When you receive your reminder, see your health care provider for a requisition to pick up your FIT. To ensure your contact information is up-to-date, please call us at 1-877-702-6566 or send an email to screening@bccancer.bc.ca.

Individuals with a personal history of colon cancer, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease have individual needs that cannot be met with a population approach to screening. These patients should continue to obtain care through their specialist or primary care provider.
