Your Next FIT

Eligible patients can pick up FIT kits from any public or private lab across the province with a referral from their health care provider. For more information please visit this page.

The screening test for colon cancer is called the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT). FIT detects blood in your stool (poop) which can be a sign of pre-cancer.

FIT is recommended every 2 years for people who do not have a personal history of adenomas or a significant family history of colon cancer.

Individuals with a personal history of colon cancer, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease have individual needs that cannot be met with a population approach to screening. These patients should continue to obtain care through their specialist or primary care provider.
