Cancer Prevention Indicator Report

Learn how proven strategies and policies can help reduce cancer risk across British Columbia.


​​Research shows that about 4 in 10 cancer cases can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices and supportive public policies. Developed by BC Cancer and the BC Centre for Disease Control, the Cancer Prevention Indicator Report​ examines the most common cancer risk factors and highlights policies and actions that can help reduce cancer risk across the province. ​

This report is a resource for anyone involved in health care and health promotion, including policymakers, program planners and community leaders. 

What’s in the report?

  • An overview of eight cancer risk factors, including commercial tobacco, alcohol, UV radiation, and occupational and environmental exposures
  • Information about how income, education and location can affect access to resources and opportunities
  • Examples of programs and policies already in place to help reduce cancer risk
  • Strategies to strengthen prevention efforts and support healthier communities​
