Who we are

The new BC Cancer centre in Nanaimo is located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.

BC Cancer and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), in partnership with Island Health, are building this centre to improve access to cancer care for people in central and northern Vancouver Island.  

Construction is underway, and the centre is expected to open in 2028. 

New centre overview​

The new BC Cancer centre in Nanaimo will:

  • ​Provide about 11,000 radiation consultations​​ and follow-up appointments each year
  • Deliver about 20,000 treatments for up to 1,600 patients in its first year
