Starting April 1, 2026, participants will no longer receive a mailed letter if their screening results are normal and no follow-up is needed. Participants who require follow‑up or further action will continue to receive a mailed letter.
Screening results will still be available in several ways:
- Health Gateway – the online portal that provides secure, convenient access to your health records in BC. Sign in with your BC Services Card and view your results in your Health Record Timeline.
- Your health‑care provider – who will continue to receive your results.
- By request – you may ask for a mailed copy of your results by calling the Breast Screening Client Services Centre at 1‑800‑663‑9203.
Most results are ready about three weeks after your mammogram. BC Cancer will continue to send communications to remind you when you are due for screening and any results that require follow‑up.
In addition to breast screening results, you can also view breast screening reminders in Health Gateway, along with cervix, colon and lung screening results and reminders.
Expanding online access to screening program results and reminders aligns with the province's 10‑Year Cancer Action Plan, which aims to strengthen cancer care and enhance access to screening services. Improving online access supports patient empowerment and is intended to improve access, awareness and outcomes related to BC Cancer screening programs.
Approximately one in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Regular screening mammograms can find breast cancer early, often before it has spread.
Screening mammograms are available for most women, and many Two-Spirit, trans and gender-diverse individuals, 40 years and older with no symptoms. If you are eligible for breast screening, you can either book an appointment directly with a clinic or visit www.screeningbc.ca/breast. For support booking an appointment, call the BC Cancer Screening Program Client Service Centre at 1-800-663-9203.
Breast screening is for women who have no breast concerns or symptoms. If you notice any new changes in your breast such as a lump or nipple discharge, see your health care provider right away.
