“It was so unexpected. I was shocked when I heard I had won,” said Farah. “It’s an honour to be recognized.”

Since joining BC Cancer in 2015 Farah McKenzie has made a significant impact on both patients and staff. Her passion, leadership, and commitment to providing the best possible patient care goes above and beyond her role as a nurse practitioner at the BC Cancer – Prince George centre. Farah was integral in promoting the first-ever myeloma info session there and even encouraged attendance from the entire Northern BC. Knowing where her patients hung out, Farah visited all their favourite spots throughout the North and hung posters in their favourite haunts to help drive participation. Her work has even helped kickstart the first myeloma support group in Northern BC!

“I love oncology and I love working with patients. When they are first diagnosed with cancer, it can be really scary, but it’s a joy to watch how they thrive following treatment,” Farah shared.  “They connect back with their lives and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of that journey.”
The Marion State Memorial Myeloma Canada Nursing Award was created in 2012 and is given annually for extraordinary contributions to the Canadian myeloma community.
