An integrated cancer centre will be part of the new hospital in Surrey.
BC Cancer (Provincial Health Services Authority), in partnership with the Fraser Health Authority, is building a comprehensive, integrated cancer centre as part of the new Surrey hospital. The new BC Cancer centre is anticipated to open in 2027.
The cancer centre will complement the services provided at the new hospital in Surrey and will include treatment, supportive care, research, education, and innovative technologies such as virtual health.
Surrey's new hospital and cancer centre will be built in Cloverdale beside the Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus at 5500 180 Street.
The additional centre will complement the services and care provided by BC Cancer – Surrey and help meet the demand for expanded cancer care services in this fast-growing region. By 2027, it is anticipated that one in three new cancer diagnoses in the province will be in the Fraser Health area.
The new site is expected to support the needs of the growing community with 105,000 oncology ambulatory care visits and 72,000 cancer treatment-related visits, such as radiation therapy every year.
Expanded cancer care services in the region will increase capacity and decrease wait times for oncologist appointments and radiation therapy. The centre will also be a hub of excellence for clinical and academic activities in order to attract top professionals.
Construction of the new Surrey hospital and BC Cancer Centre is expected to begin in 2023 with completion projected in 2027.
