Services Offered
We offer the following services at BC Cancer Vancouver:
- Phlebotomy services
- Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
- Urine Collection
- Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) and other testing kits
- Clinical trial and research collections: we support clinical trials and research studies with reliable specimen collection services, including blood and urine
We do not collect or send out blood collections that are to be tested by laboratories outside of BC without prior approval and funding. Instead, please refer to the Out-of-Province/Country Request Forms.
Requisition
A requisition is a mandatory requirement for any laboratory services. Please ensure your patient has the appropriate Standing Out-Patient Laboratory Requisition.
To prevent delays or issues with specimen collections, ensure that:
- The correct date for blood draw is included on the requisition
- Orders placed in Cerner are activated and signed before the patient arrives to the lab for blood collection and before a specimen is sent down to the lab for processing. Or Ensure that all orders in Cerner are activated and signed before the patient arrives at the lab for blood collection and before any specimens are sent to the lab for processing.
- Ordering physicians' signature is included in the appropriate field on the paper requisition, if there is one provided. Or If a paper requisition is provided, ensure the ordering physician's signature is included in the designated signature field.
Results Of Services
We only issue results directly to physicians via Excelleris. Physicians can also access lab results via CareConnect or by contacting the PHSA Labs Client Services.
We do not:
- provide results directly to patients for privacy reasons
- provide verbal or faxed copies of results

In-Patient Hours of operation
We provide in-ward services, including phlebotomy, ECGs during:
· Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
· Sat/Sun/Stat holidays, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
