When people seek care at our hospitals, they want to receive that care in an environment that prioritizes their health needs and safety. It is the responsibility of the health system to provide a safe environment and care for all patients and for health care workers.
At BC Cancer, we honour the value and dignity of all individuals. We aim to treat others with kindness and respect.
While substance use (vaping, alcohol, and unregulated/illegal substances) is not permitted anywhere on our sites, we care for and support people who use substances who are in our care. Please ask your health care worker or provider how we may support your wellness.
Our goal is to work together to provide people with the care they need, in an environment that is safe for everyone.
We are currently reviewing and updating our policies to ensure staff safety and to ensure we continue to provide care and support in a trauma-informed, anti-racist environment, free from discrimination and stigmatization.
The health and safety of our patients and employees is extremely important to us. Please do not visit if you have a fever and respiratory symptoms, or have been exposed to an infectious disease within the last two weeks. If you are a patient, please call your healthcare provider from home.
Smoking is not permitted in the buildings or on the grounds. This means that staff, patients, and visitors are not permitted to smoke on site. If you have questions about this policy, please email
smokefree@phsa.ca.
