BC Cancer's Deeley Research Centre (DRC) performs "bench-to-bedside" research for patients on Vancouver Island and throughout British Columbia.
Researchers at the DRC are studying how the immune system responds to cancer and how to best enhance this response as a new form of cancer treatment. In particular, they are developing new strategies to induce T cells (a type of white blood cell) to attack and destroy cancer cells. Based on encouraging results in the lab, the DRC is developing a clinical trials program that will offer leading edge immune-based treatments to patients in BC in the near future.
The DRC is led by Dr. Brad Nelson.
